DISTRICT 5 FFA ALUMNI WORKSHOP AND MEETING WILL BE HELD AT Rend Lake College in the Student Center on Monday, March 26th from 6-8 p.m. in conjunction with the District Ag. Sales CDE.

DISTRICT 5 FFA AGRISCIENCE FAIR RESULTS…92 students from 13 FFA chapters participated.(Egyptian, Goreville, Freeburg, Cisne, Wesclin, McLeansboro, Olney, Mt. Vernon, Marion, Eldorado, Benton, Trico, and Flora). This number of students has doubled over the past few years. Thank you to Rend Lake College, Ed Billingsley and staff, for providing the $500 cash prizes, lunch for all of the participants, and for hosting this activity. Judges were: Janice Page-Franklin County SWCD, Susan Miller-Williamson County Ag. Awareness Coordinator, Robin McAfoos-Franklin County Ag. Awareness Coordinator, Venessa Knoblock-St. Clair County Ag. Awareness Coordinator, Dan Selock-Aquaculture Specialist, and Mandy Brandenburg and Maria Restrepo-Co-Collegiate FFA Advisors-SIUC. Each project received a $7 cash award and a framed certificate. Top Ten Students- 1st-Tony O'Brian-Olney, 2nd-Matt Hornbostel-Trico, 3rd-Jordan Keyser-Cisne, and rounding out the top ten were: Jennifer Jones-Wesclin, Tiffany Ochs-Olney, Wade Maulding-McLeansboro, David Funk, Tim Clayton, Daniel Coughlin, Dan Beisiegel-Freeburg, Jessie Goines-Marion, and Joe Goodman-Flora.

NATIONAL TREE TRUST, a non-profit tree planting organization, has a surplus of seedlings for distribution this spring through the Community Tree Planting Grant Program. A variety of species are available for every region in the U.S. Seedlings will be ready for delivery from now through April. The main requirements are:
-trees must be planted on public land near the school.
-project must utilize volunteers for planting and maintaining
-2 years of annual reporting

ALL ASPECTS OF THE INDUSTRY workshop sponsored by IACTE will be held at the Mt. Vernon Holiday Inn on Friday, April 6th from 8:30 - 3. For more information and registration, contact the IACTE office at 217-544-0815. The workshop will provide participants with a definition of all aspects of the industry and the components that form the framework of Work Based Learning. Industry representatives from McDonald's Management and Ruby Tuesdays will be speaking.
