Illinois High Schools Statewide Receive Grants
to Enhance Agricultural Education Departments and Programs

RANTOUL, IL – Several Illinois high school agriculture departments will get upgrades to their current equipment or space this year with funding provided in part by the “Improving your Agricultural Education Program” grants. The grants are coordinated by Facilitating Coordination in Agricultural Education (FCAE) with funding through the Illinois State Board of Education’s (ISBE) agricultural education line item.

“Agricultural education is a multidisciplinary field that prepares Illinois students for more than 300 science, technology and business career fields. Part of our job in recruiting students into the field is to make sure they have top education opportunities,” says Jay Runner, FCAE coordinator. “Program improvements are one of the elements that have contributed to a rise in the number of agriculture programs in the state. The number of students in agricultural education has also climbed over the last decade.”

Grant proposals were reviewed by a committee made up of Illinois Leadership Council for Agricultural Education (ILCAE) and Illinois Committee for Agricultural Education (ICAE) members. Recipients were selected based on each project’s goals and objectives, plan of action, impact, budget, district financial need and School Report Card Status.

Grants up to $10,000 were made to schools to fund major program improvement projects. Schools must provide a 50 percent local match. FCAE provided total grant dollars of $195,945.
