Advisory Councils are very important components of your overall program. An advisory committee is a group of business, industry, community and school related people who keep your program on track. With appropriate management, it can provide advisement, assistance and support to design, develop, and deliver a quality program for students. 12 quality indicators are available to you as well on the annual incentive funding grant. This amounts to about $360 plus back to your program. If you attended the advisory council workshop at the IAVAT conference, I hope that you are now implementing some of the suggestions and ideas. If you did not attend the workshop or you have misplaced this information, and if you need assistance developing an advisory council, contact your FCAE field advisor. The complete packet of materials is now also available online at:"01.pdf or through " then teacher's toolbox, then FCAE Training manual, then see Advisory Councils in the right column.

Where will your agricultural education program be in the next year and into the future?? That is a good question. In an effort to enhance and improve agricultural education programs throughout Illinois, it is best to be proactive instead of reactive. Being proactive in program goal setting and planning does not add more to your daily workload. The first step is to identify where you want the program to be in a year and into the future. A 1 and 5 year goal planning documentation was provided to every agriculture teacher at section IAVAT fall meetings. I hope that you are using this tool with your administration, advisory council, and FFA Alumni is setting goals for the future. If you need assistance, contact your FCAE field advisor.

Are your curriculum needs changing? Have students taken all of the agriculture courses that your school offers and they are asking for more choices? If so, it may be time to evaluate your current course offerings. Now is the time to be planning these changes with your curriculum committees, guidance counselors, and administration. Some new choices in approvable course offerings will be released soon. These new choices will be in the agricultural mechanics and agricultural resources sequences. For assistance, contact your FCAE field advisor.
