PROGRAM: Ag Sustainability…Observations from the Food Chain You don’t want to miss this presentation as Agriculture is becoming a focal point in sustainability conversations.   Wal-Mart recently announced their food product goals.  Other retailers and consumer packaged goods companies have ongoing efforts related to agriculture.  Several domestic and international groups are considering standards for agricultural sustainability.  The Federal Trade Commission proposed draft rules governing advertising in this area.  While these discussions continue, food insecure nations seek long term leases or are buying land to produce the food they need.  It is critical for agricultural interests to seek sound, science based policies that allow production to increase and produce as efficiently as possible.

GUEST SPEAKER:    Marty Strauss...During his 32 year tenure with Monsanto, Marty worked in government affairs, regulatory affairs, corporate affairs and engineering.  For the last decade, he led Monsanto’s interactions with the food and Ag chain on food policy issues domestically and internationally.  Dr. Strauss continues to serve on the American National Standards Institute Board, serves on several technical and policy committees of the Grocery Manufacturers of America and serves as an advisor to the Keystone Field to Market effort and to the Sustainability Consortium.  Dr. Strauss’ education includes a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, an MBA, and bachelors and masters degrees in Environmental Engineering.  He now works with colleagues in Kahn, Strauss and Associates, LLC on sustainability and agricultural technology issues.  Marty is very articulate and entertaining.  See his presentation without slides.  He has made many presentations in telling a story including the Actor’s Guild.
