Summer Ag Institutes for K-12 Teachers - Grad Credit thru SIU-Carbondale

Ag Teachers - Please forward to your co-K-12 Teachers. Flyers and registration forms for both weeks are attached.


Two Summer Agriculture Institutues will be offered this summer through SIUC.  Great way for teachers to gain Ag In The Classroom information/resources and graduate credit.  Most county Farm Bureaus offer stipends for teachers to attend.  I would encourage everyone interested to inquire at their county Farm Bureau office.

--June 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 2011 at the St. Clair County Farm Bureau in Belleville    
       
--July 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 2011 - Jackson & Williamson County Farm Bureaus in Murphysboro and Marion

The course is designed for Preschool – High School educators who wish to expand their curriculum to include topics related to agriculture-the world’s food and fiber system. The course focuses on how to integrate available resources and hands-on activities about agriculture and the environment into an existing classroom curriculum.

Benefits of Completing Summer Agriculture Institute
·         3 Graduate credits for attending 5 full days
·         4 Graduate credits for attending 5 full days and completing an extra assignment
·         Agricultural Literacy and Ideas on how to integrate Agriculture into your classroom
 
Cost of Summer Agriculture Institute ($200 per graduate credit hour)
·         $600-3 graduate credit hours through Southern Illinois University Carbondale
·         $800-4 graduate credit hours through Southern Illinois University Carbondale
·          No tuition waivers can be used
·          Stipends may be available through the County Farm Bureau in the county in which your school is located
 
SIU COURSE NUMBER
Upon completion, Pre K – 12th grade teachers will earn 3 graduate credits in the course PSAS 499. Teachers interested in enrolling in the course must contact Amy Boren for registration.
