Items In This Message

1) State FFA Convention Press Corps Volunteers

2) Alliance Pipeline Scholarships

State FFA Convention Press Corps Volunteers

As we prepare for the 2011 State FFA Convention, one of the critical activities that we need help with during the convention is the Press Corps area backstage.  All 2010-2011 Section Reporters and all students who applied for the Outstanding Chapter Reporter Award will be invited to serve on the Press Corps.  In order to get enough people to adequately staff the press area, we will accept volunteers who would like to work in the press area.  If you have a newly elected section or chapter reporter or a student who is interested in ag communications and would like to work in the press area during the convention, please send their name, address, and e-mail to Associate Executive Secretary Frank Dry.  It would also be helpful to know if there are convention sessions that they are not available to work.  All students assigned to the press corps will work two sessions during the convention.

Farm Credit Services will again be sponsoring the press area and providing technical help.  All press releases will be sent out electronically.  Farm Credit will also be providing a small gift to all students who work in the press area.  If you have students interested in voluneeting, please get the information to Frank as soon as possible.

Advisors:  Please note we plan to have a data base of e-mail addresses for Illinois newspapers, but it would be very helpful if you bring your local newspaper's e-mail address with you just in case we do not have it.  Some of the small, local newspapers may not be in the data base we are using.

Alliance Pipeline Scholarships

Each year, we offer five $1,000 scholarships from Alliance Pipeline to graduating senior FFA members from schools in the counties the Alliance pipeline crosses in northern Illinois.  At this time, we do not have five applications for the scholarships.  If you are from one of the qualified schools and have students interested in applying for the available scholarships, you can access the application on the Illinois FFA website.  Students should submit the application as soon as possible to Associate Executive Secretary Frank Dry.  Applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis until May 27.
