AITC Coordinator Vacancy in Saline/Gallatin Counties

Position     Ag In The Classroom Coordinator & Foundation Manager
Description     The Saline and Gallatin County Farm Bureaus are looking to contract with a patient, outgoing, organized individual to coordinate agricultural literacy efforts in Saline and Gallatin counties both in the classroom and to the public. 15-25 hours a week. Communites in these counties are Junction, Ridgeway, Galatia, Carrier Mills, Harrisburg, and Eldorado.

The Agriculture Literacy Coordinator will provide agriculture programs for the schools and communities in Saline and Gallatin Counties. The Agriculture Literacy Coordinator is encouraged to incorporate Illinois State Learning Standards, hands-on activities, and scientific inquiry in the programs. The Agriculture Literacy Coordinator is responsible for providing programs aimed at integrating science, math, reading, writing, social studies, and health into agriculture. Suggested subject matter for programs include animals, energy, insects, plants, soils, weather, genetics, horticulture, and conservation of natural resources.

Responsibilities
1. To develop, deliver, and coordinate scheduling of agriculture literacy programs in the schools.
2. Recruit and train volunteers to assist in agriculture literacy programs.
3. To increase the visibility of the Saline and Gallatin Counties Farm Bureau Agriculture Literacy programs in the counties.
4. Organize and record meetings of the Saline and Gallatin Counties Partners for Agriculture Literacy Committees.
5. Organize and promote fundraising for the Saline and Gallatin Counties Farm Bureau Foundation.
6. Search out grants and other opportunities for funding.
7. Keep an accurate record of expenditures and travel expenses.
8. Regularly report on programs to the Farm Bureau Manager, Illinois Farm Bureau home office, and local newspapers.
9. Prepare an annual report summarizing the results of classroom presentations and the number of students reached.

Minimum Qualifications
-Experience working with children.
-Excellent oral and written communication skills.
-Excellent organizational skills.
-Adequate transportation.

Desired Qualifications
-College degree in communications or education.
-Agriculture background.
