Ag In The Classroom ISAT Materials - Be Popular With 4th & 6th Grade Teachers

Tuesday, January 17, 2012

*Message Sent Statewide to All Contacts.

IL Ag In The Classroom has developed resources to help 4th and 6th grade teachers prepare students for ISAT testing.  The resources are very similar to what students would view questions on the actual test.  Each assessment has an agricultural application for students to prepare for the ISAT test and learn about the agricultural industry.  Click here  or, Teacher Resources, then ISAT Materials.  Answer keys are provided.

Take time in the near future to forward this email to your K-6 teachers at your school.  These resources can also be used by your high school students in presenting to K-6 classrooms during FFA and Agriculture Weeks.  You will be a big hit and very popular with your elementary teachers.

Our goal is to give teachers 20 weeks worth of review materials to use to prepare for ISAT testing. The activities are intended to take no more than 10 minutes a day and to use the 20 Ag Mags as a resource.  Ag Mags are in print and/or online(click here).  Printed Ag Mags come in packages of 30 and can be obtained FREE from your county Ag In The Classroom Coordinator or Farm Bureau Manager.

The intended format for each week is as follows:

Monday – Introduce Ag Mag – have students read and use pre-reading strategies
Tuesday – Vocabulary Activity related to the Ag Mag
Wednesday – Math Activity related to the Ag Mag
Thursday – Reading Passage and questions related to the Ag Mag
Friday – Extended Response question related to the Ag Mag

“Test preparation should be integrated into periodic review, as an integral part of an overall approach to learning. It takes time for your brain to structure information into categories. When you allow your brain enough time to review, synthesize, and organize the material, learning becomes easier.” – Scholastic
