Farm Credit Awards Community Improvement Grants
Totaling $8,500 to 4-H and FFA Youth
More than thirty different 4-H clubs and FFA chapters throughout central and southern Illinois are each being awarded a $250 grant to assist their respective group in implementing an improvement project in their local community. Farm Credit is recognizing 34 different 4-H clubs and FFA chapters with $250 grants for submitting outstanding grant applications and plans to complete an improvement project in the coming months.
This is the fourth year Farm Credit has funded community improvement grants for 4-H clubs and FFA chapters. More than $20,000 of grants has been awarded since 2009. “It is a privilege for Farm Credit to share a vision for healthy rural communities with 4-H and FFA members. We congratulate these 34 clubs and chapters and salute them for making positive and tangible contributions in their local communities,” says Rod Stoll, vice president of public relations for Farm Credit.

The following 4-H clubs and FFA chapters were selected by a panel of industry judges to receive a $250 community improvement grant in support of implementing the respective project listed:

·         All School 4-H Club (Champaign County): Grow a vegetable garden for Feeding the Hungry in Champaign
·         Blue Ribbon 4-H Club (Edwards County): Beautify the Edwards County Fairgrounds
·         Bone Gap Cardinals 4-H Club (Edwards County): Restore the Bone Gap Chowder picnic grounds
·         Centralia FFA Chapter (Marion County): Plant and maintain a community garden at Centralia High School
·         Clover Cadets 4-H Club (Macoupin County): Landscape grounds of North Mac United Soccer Association 
·          Enfield Blue Ribbon 4-H Club (White County): Landscape grounds of Community Daycare in Norris City
·         G.J. Beavers 4-H Club (Jackson County): Plant trees at Christ Lutheran School in Jacob 
·          Gallatin County FFA Chapter (Gallatin County): Educate Gallatin County 5th graders on farm safety
·         Golden Eagles 4-H Club (Monroe County): Landscape the entrance of the Monroe County Fairgrounds
·         Green Genes 4-H Club (Macoupin County): "The Green Giving Project" - planting a garden at Water Street Residence in Staunton
·         Green Wolves 4-H Club (Christian County): Provide improvements to Owaneco Park
·         Island Grove 4-H Club (Sangamon County): "New Berlin Pride"- downtown New Berlin landscaping

·         Omega Shamrocks 4-H Club (Marion County): Establish a bluebird house trail at Forbes Park in Marion County
·         Patoka Panthers 4-H Club (Marion County): Renovate the 4-H show arena at the Marion County Fairgrounds
·         Southwestern FFA Chapter (Macoupin County): Install an Agriscience Learning Garden at Southwestern High School
·         Starr Shooters 4-H Club (Montgomery County): Provide and maintain plastic recycling receptacles at Nokomis Memorial Baseball Park
·         Sugar Creek Pioneers 4-H Club (Sangamon County): Establish a picnic site and install sandbox at Chatham Bicycle and Jogging Trail
·         Town & Country 4-H Club (Sangamon County): Re-finish floor at Clothing Connection in Auburn
·         Triopia FFA Chapter (Morgan County): Construct a new bus shelter at Chapin Lions Club
·         Unity FFA Chapter (Champaign County): Plant and maintain trees at East Side Park in Tolono
·         Urbana FFA Chapter (Champaign County): Establish a Learning Garden at Urbana Middle School 
·          Waterloo FFA Chapter (Monroe County): Construct and install a bridge over Bellefontaine Springs in Waterloo
·         West Side 4-H Club (Sangamon County): Provide landscaping for New Berlin Elementary School 
·          Whitetail Warriors 4-H Club (Pope County): Implement a community garden on Main Street in Golconda
·         Winchester FFA Chapter (Scott County): Design and construct recycling containers for the City of Winchester
