Illinois Department of Natural Resources' Illinois ENTICE Summer Workshop Registration Is Now Underway!

Registration for summer workshop sessions of the popular Illinois
ENTICE (Environment and Nature Training Institute for Conservation
Education) program for educators is now underway. Workshops offer
natural resources information and instructional methods to encourage and
promote stewardship of our state's natural resources. Illinois ENTICE
also gives participants the opportunity to network with resource
professionals and other educators in a friendly, cooperative, learning
environment. Workshops are open to all educators. See workshop
description for targeted grade levels. Participants receive the
following items:
* free workshop/resource materials
* meals during the workshop
* mileage reimbursement for those driving more than 15 miles one-way
* lesson plans and activities correlated to the Illinois Learning Standards
* for teachers, continuing professional development units (CPDUs)

Nine workshops are being offered in Summer 2003 (six Biodiversity 101
workshops and one each of Illinois' "ammals, Illinois' Forest Resources
and Illinois' Prairies). Please note targeted grade levels before
selecting a workshop session. For more information or to obtain a

must be delivered to the IDNR by the U.S. Postal Service. No fax, phone or e-mail registrations are accepted. Applications for each course will be accepted through the date noted. All applications received by the deadline date will be entered in a random lottery drawing. Official confirmation will be sent notifying all individuals of the lottery outcome.

Biodiversity 101
This introduction to Illinois' natural resources is designed for
educators of grades kindergarten through 12. Discover Illinois'
biodiversity and trace its natural progression through time.
Participants explore aquatic, woodland and prairie ecosystems while
learning how to bring nature to students. This session will be held on
the following dates at these sites.

Resource professionals and educators will provide a general
introduction to the mammals of Illinois for classroom educators.
Participants will learn about furbearers, game species and bats through
this hands-on workshop. Targeted for educators of grades four through
six.

Illinois' Forest Resources
Friday, June 20, 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Touch of Nature Environmental
Center, Carbondale
Limited to 30 participants. Registration deadline, "ay 23,
2003.
Participants will explore forests in southern Illinois while learning
tree anatomy, tree identification skills and other forestry topics.
Targeted for educators of grades kindergarten through three, the

ivities and materials provided will help you meet the Illinois State
Learning Standards.

Illinois' Prairies
Wednesday, July 16, 8:30 a.m. - Thursday, July 17, 5:00 p.m., Camp
Wokanda, "ossville

Lodging provided.
Join us for a general introduction to the tallgrass prairies of
Illinois. Educators of grades kindergarten through five will participate
in numerous prairie stewardship activities in this hands-on workshop.
