STEM SAE Grant Summary - Work Smart Not More

Wednesday, April 03, 2013

*Sent to District 5 Ag Teachers

Thank you to the 33 schools that took time during a hectic period to submit a grant application.  Your time paid off as each school that submitted SAE data for 2012 received $15 per student.   Each of these schools has valuable data to share with school and community stakeholders.  Example:  The little town of Cisne, Illinois, of section 23 with a population of 670 residents totaled $175,979 in student SAE net income.

I cannot stress enough that we has agricultural educators must begin to work smarter and more efficiently.  Take a look at your time throughout the week and month.  What activities/events/lessons can you eliminate that don't affect many students and are out dated that you could implement more SAE activities to gain valuable data and student skills.

My hope is that every program(74) next year will take advantage of this STEM Initiative grant.  The time is now though to start students with an SAE - Ag or nonAg related and record books - online or paper.  Grant is determined by students having an SAE in 2013.

TAKE TIME this week to do 2 steps:

STEP ONE - Download the SAE lessons, Powerpoints, and E-units from www.myCAERT.com.  Use in each of your ag. classes.

STEP TWO -  Order from ITCS Practice Problems for R9800 Record Book R9815, Price: $6.70

The mini problems may be printed, duplicated, and distributed for student use. Each mini problem is used with a specific student worksheet. The worksheets are record book pages with modifications for worksheet use. Each mini problem has a teacher key. The CD-ROM also contains evaluation suggestions in the form of scorecards. The PowerPoint content can be modified by teachers to meet individual department objectives. The material is designed to blend student activities into classroom presentations and to create a baseline to evaluate SAEP record books.
