Rend Lake College - Applied "cience(Agriculture) Center Groundbreaking Ceremony

Everyone is invited!

Date: Monday, July 12, 2004
Time: 11 a.m.
Location: Building "ite, Rend Lake College - Campus "outhwest Perimeter

Lunch will follow

The public is invited to join Rend Lake College officials and area dignitaries for the ground-breaking ceremony for RLC’s new Applied "cience Center, a facility which will allow the college to continue offering a variety of quality programs to its students.

The event will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 12, at the project site on the southwest corner of the Ina campus. Lunch will be offered after the ceremony.

The building will allow Rend Lake College to expand its Agriculture Business, Agriculture Production, Agriculture Mechanics, Heavy Equipment, Diesel Technology and Horticulture programs. This new facility will encompass 22,300 square feet and will include a parking lot containing 274 spaces.

Indirectly, the expansion could free up space for other programs at the Vocational Technology Building, where these programs are currently housed. "ome possibilities include expansion of the Automotive and Architecture programs or the addition of a new program.

The "tate of Illinois has provided $1.5 million for the project. Rend Lake College has issued bonds to bring in $500,000 and is committed to another $580,000 if money from other sources does not become available.

In addition to providing room for the expansion of these programs, there is almost unlimited room for expansion of the new facility itself, if needed.

“Our old shop was only about 7,000 square feet,” Kern said. Now, RLC students will have the opportunity to work on equipment such as bulldozers and heavy trucks thanks to the new building.

According to RLC President Mark Kern, there is plenty of student demand for these expanded offerings to fill the programs, and there are numerous well-paying jobs for these students in "outhern Illinois.

A tent will be set up near the building site for the event. "everal local politicians and dignitaries have been invited to attend. The public is encouraged to join the college and learn about this new facility.

For more information about the ground-breaking ceremony, contact the Rend Lake College Foundation Office at (618) 437-5321, Ext. 1214 / 1324, or call toll-free (in-district only) at 1-800-369-5321.
