April 5 - 12 pm - Be Part of U.S. Ag Virtual Field Trip

To continue the excitement of discovering the FARMLAND movie and encourage teachers and educators to utilize the free online teacher resources available, United States Farmers and Ranchers Alliance(USFRA) and Discovery Education are teaming up to host a virtual field trip.  Registration link for online viewing and lessons.

This allows for students to take an intimate look at a farm and/or ranch while focusing on USFRA’s core strategic issues and ask the specific questions that may be on their minds. The overarching intent of the Virtual Field Trip is to:

- Create a connection between food and farming
- Demonstrate what modern conventional farming looks like today, with an emphasis on demonstrating technology and innovation
-Highlight the availability of careers in agriculture.

What is a Virtual Field Trip?

-An open-access, 45-minute virtual production, accessible at no-cost to schools and communities worldwide
-Streamed live to classrooms, viewers have the ability to email/tweet questions to speakers for real-time engagement
-Similar format to a “talk show” and will include packaged video content as well as panelists who participate in the event
-Live audience of students to further bring to life the programming
-Enhanced video footage (pre-recorded) to offer students behind-the-scenes access
-Content utilized on a variety of digital platforms (web, social, etc.) and archived on program website for ongoing use.

Live Event Date: April 5, 2016 at 12:00 pm Central Time (Duration: 45 minutes)

Location: John Deere Headquarters in Moline, Illinois.  The VFT will be live streamed from the display floor of John Deere Headquarters.

Irrigation systems managed from iPads; animal diets’ tracked by computer chip; and tractors that drive using GPS, are only a few examples of the ways today’s farmers and ranchers are using technology on their farms and ranches to produce food in a sustainable manner. Conversations with leaders in agriculture will allow you to explore new techniques that have revolutionized the industry and the career opportunities that these advancements have brought to the field.

Post Virtual Field Trip Panel Discussion

-Following the VFT, USFRA intends to hold a small-scale panel discussion comprised of the students/educators who have been invited to watch the VFT in-person. The purpose of this post-VFT activity is to continue the conversation on the topics addressed during the VFT event.
