FARMWEEK Reading Activity from Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom.

Another in the series of Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom non-fiction text examples to be used in your classroom.  Remember, these will be available every MONDAY afternoon that FarmWeek is published during the school year.

Note, by request of teachers we have included the answers to the questions immediately following the questions. 

Resolutions committee reviews proposed IFB policy changes

1.       Name the Vice President of the Illinois Farm Bureau.  (David Erickson)

2.       Describe CSA.  (Community Supported Agriculture-where consumers buy shares of a farm and receive produce during the growing season)

3.       Why does Joe White feel it is important to keep nutrition and commodities tied together in the farm bill? (Because without the nutrition portion, there might not be a farm bill)

4.       The Illinois Farm Bureau is looking at 2 specific resolutions regarding education.  A) transitioning to a model that helps students identify passions earlier in educational experiences and B) increasing student engagement in local, state and federal activities.  As students, what do you think of these initiatives, and why is it important for a farm organization to support these?  (Answers will vary)

5.       Farm Bureau is looking to support waiving the residency requirements for highway commissioners with populations of less than 1,500.  Explain why you think there is that requirement and if you support or oppose such a ruling.  (Answers will vary)
