FARMWEEK Reading Activity from Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom.

Another in the series of Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom non-fiction text examples to be used in your classroom.  Remember, these will be available every MONDAY afternoon that FarmWeek is published during the school year.

ASA President sees growth of soybean output, demand

  1.  What was the 2016 Average soybean yield in Illinois and why is it significant?  (62 bushels per acre and first time yield exceeded 60 bushels per acre.)
  2. Statewide how many bushels of soybeans were harvested, and why is this significant?  (623 million bushels and it tops 600 million and is the 3rd time in the last 4 years IL leads the naton in Soybean production.)
  3. What reasons does Ron Moore, president of American Soybean Association(ASA) attribute to record harvest?  (growing season and technology)
  4. American Soybean Association and President Moore urge an increase production.   What is the big issue they encourage farmers to do?  (increase management of crops)
  5. ASA hopes the new Farm Bill is in place when?  (in 2017 in time for the 2018 crop year)
  6. 60 percent of soybeans raised in the US go into the export market.  What is ASA stressing with the new administration?  (Importance of Trade)
