FARMWEEK Reading Activity from Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom.


Another in the series of Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom non-fiction text examples to be used in your classroom.  Remember, these will be available every MONDAY afternoon that FarmWeek is published during the school year.

  1.  According to a 2015 Decisions Innovation Solutions study, how many jobs does Illinois agriculture account for?  (one in every 17 jobs and $120.9 billion in sales to the state economy)
  2. Describe Automated Production (AP) Systems in Assumption, Illinois.   (a global swine feed storage and delivery system located in a 1 million square foot plant that employs 750 including 200 in Taylorville)
  3. FarmWeld, located in the Effingham County town of Teutopolis, manufactures swine equipment.   How does animal agriculture play a role in a vital Illinois economy?  (More livestock barns being built will increase chances to supply equipment within the state. )
