FY17 Ag Grant - Purchase According to Budget by June 30th

Sunday, May 14, 2017

*Sent to District 5 Administrators & Ag Teachers.

Hi Superintendents, Principals, & Ag Teachers-

The recommendation from ISBE is to spend your FY17 Ag Incentive Grant funds prior to June 30, 2017, according to your budget with school district reserves even if your school district has not received funding from the Comptroller's Office.   Click to check if Ag Grant funding has been sent to your school district by the Comptroller's office.

Harley Hepner, ISBE Ag Ed Consultant, sent a message on April 27th with the last paragraph stating to view:

"The current fiscal situation with state funds is that funds are 8+ months in arrears (to the district) from the date the payment voucher from ISBE is issued to the Comptroller.  This is likely to continue for the foreseeable future. Given this, it is possible that the end of the grant period (June 30) will arrive prior to the district receiving grant funds.  While not ideal, it is recommended the district purchase according to the approved budget prior to the end date and then wait for the state funds to arrive to essentially reimburse the district for that payment.  If the district does not spend the grant funds by the end date of the grant (June 30), then the district will need to return the unspent funds to ISBE.  Take the time now in the last few weeks of school to review your purchases, communicate with your business office, and make sure all funds are spent."
