District 5 Agricultural Education/FFA Activity Calendars ready…All of the State, District 5, and Section 21-25 activities have been entered in to the Calendar Creator program. I will be sending a copy to the district director, section chairpersons, SIUC, and community colleges next week. If you would like a copy of this 12 page document, please let me know.

Invitational Forestry Career Development Event…will be held on Thursday, October 5th at Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. in room T217. Lunch will be served at 11:15 a.m. The CDE will start at noon and end by 4 p.m. Results will be distributed by mail during the week of October 9th. Preregistration is required by contacting Dan Price at 618/252-5400, ext. 2301 or [email protected] by September 28th. The CDE will include: General knowledge, tree identification, equipment identification, timber cruising for cord volume, forest management evaluation, and compass practicum.

Horticulture Hands-on Workshop…Friday, October 6th, Rend Lake College, 9-3, $15 registration fee. Call Betty Musgrave at 618/438-9711 to register. Provided by Ed Billingsley and faculty of RLC.

Power presents the Power of Education's 2000 Classroom Grants… These grants are intended to assist teachers in the enhancement of classroom instruction. The maximum grant is $100 for the purchase of materials, supplies, equipment, or to enhance special projects. Grant applications and details can be found on their website at - go to teachers lounge or - go to community relations.
