The Mt. Vernon Township High School is seeking a highly-qualified agriculture teacher and FFA advisor for the 2019-2020 school year. Mt. Vernon is located in Jefferson County of Section 21, at the intersection of Interstate 57 and Interstate 64. The new teacher will be part of a multi-teacher (2.5) agriculture program. Retiring ag teacher, John Kabat, will be returning part-time to teach 1-2 classes, and Cheri Rogier will be full-time. The Mt. Vernon agriculture program serves around 250 students and has 100% FFA membership and SAE participation. The program has an active calendar of events, and has a history of success, ranking in the top 10 in the National Chapter Award program 18 of the last 20 years. The FFA chapter has had five state winning CDE teams in the past six years and is home to the 2018-19 Illinois FFA State Reporter. The selected candidate will be teaching in a state-of-the-art campus built in 2016. The agriculture department includes two classrooms with interactive whiteboards and projectors, a FFA center, school-issued copier and color printer, mini-kitchen, agriculture mechanics shop, and greenhouse with attached learning laboratory. Mt. Vernon Township High School is a 1:1 school, with all students having Chromebooks and all teachers issued laptops in addition to classroom desktops. Courses to be taught will be determined by the selected candidate’s strengths. Courses offered include: Introduction to Agriculture, Agricultural Science, Horticultural Science, Horticulture Production & Management, Ag Business Management, Ag Leadership & Communications, Basic Ag Mechanics, Advanced Ag Mechanics, Veterinary Technology, and Natural Resources Conservation & Management. Candidates with experiences in agricultural mechanics are wanted, but not required.

Salary and benefits will be commensurate with the collective bargaining agreement held by the local teachers union. The base salary with a bachelor’s degree and zero years of experience is $37,345.00. The position includes a 9 month contract and assistant FFA advisor stipend of $2646.31. Mt. Vernon Township High School completed the Three Circle FFA and SAE Grant in 2017-18 and is open to considering it in the future.  Click for website.
