Description     The Facilitating Coordination in Agricultural Education(FCAE) Project will be hiring a District 1 Program Advisor with a start date of July 1, 2019, or soon after. This program advisor position is very important to maintaining, improving, and expanding agricultural education programs within the northwestern counties of Illinois. This position is a great leadership opportunity to be engaged with the Illinois Agricultural Education State Staff. Congratulations to Kevin Larsen, current program advisor, with his new position as the Agriculture Instructor at the Sauk Valley Community College.

Position District 1 Program Advisor

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Agriculture or Agriculture Education.
Master’s in Agriculture Education, Education Leadership, or related is preferred.
2. Minimum of three (3) years of successful secondary teaching experience in Agricultural Education is preferred.
3. Membership and participation in related state and/or national professional organizations.
4. Knowledge of Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) initiatives and guidelines as they pertain to agricultural education.
5. Familiarity with the components and content of
"The Plan" for Illinois Agricultural Education.
6. Possesses good human relations skills with the ability to communicate clearly through written and oral methods.
7. Capable of working independently and as part of a team.
8. Illinois teaching license in Agriculture

JOB GOALS: To be knowledgeable of Facilitating Coordination in Agricultural Education (FCAE) procedures and policies. To assist in ensuring a helpful, efficient, and people-oriented interaction with our clientele, enabling the project to provide a positive impact.

PROGRAM AND FIELD SUPPORT
1. Provides on-site technical assistance and on-going remote assistance to middle school and secondary agriculture teachers, career counselors, administrators, and other educational personnel.
2. Provides on-site technical assistance and on-going remote assistance to post-secondary agriculture instructors, administrators, and other educational personnel.
3. Provides on-site technical assistance and on-going remote assistance to Agriculture Literacy County Coordinators, county coalition administrators, and other related personnel.
4. Reviews, field-tests, and disseminates curriculum and instructional resources to teachers at all levels.
5. Works with administrators, guidance counselors, and other educational personnel to promote agricultural education.
6. Networks and presents updates regarding agriculture education at Section and District Agriculture Education meetings and events.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND PRESENTATIONS
1. Facilitates, plans and/or conducts professional development and trainings for teachers.
2. Facilitates, plans and/or conducts presentations for students.
3. Participates in related agricultural and/or educational events to promote and inform others about agricultural education.
4. Participates in professional growth opportunities, attends regional, state, and/or national professional conferences, reads professional publications, and/or enrolls in advanced courses.

LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT
1. Is self-motivated and actively participates in FCAE meetings and activities.
2. Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required, within the given timelines.
3. Is able to work independently, plans and organizes time and work flow effectively in order to maximize productivity and complete assigned projects on time and with a high degree of effectiveness.

Facilities and technology available include: four classrooms, computer lab, school bus for department use, portable computer carts (Ipad and laptop), brand new large flat screen smart TV’s in each classroom, Greenhouse, Ag Mechanics Shop, Land Lab, Woodworking Shop, and Welding Shop.

Salaries will be based on the collective bargaining agreement. The positions are for 9 month contracts and a $7000 FFA Advisor Stipend each. The 3 Circles Grant will also be available to qualified candidates.

Description     Midwest Central High School, located in Manito in Section 12, is seeking a highly-qualified agriculture instructor and FFA advisor for the 2019-2020 school year following the retirement of Lynn Coers. Midwest Central is located in Mason and Tazewell Counties of Section 12. The new teacher will be part of a two agriculture program and work alongside current instructor, Mitch Miller. The Midwest Central agriculture program serves around 140 students and has 100% FFA membership.

The program has presented a lot of recent success. Midwest Central is the current host of the Section 12 President and will be competing at the 2019 National FFA Convention in the Marketing Plan CDE. The Program currently has a steady flow of State FFA Degree Recipients and State Proficiency finalist.

The agriculture department includes two classrooms, an office to be shared by the agriculture teachers, color printers, laptop cart, agriculture metal shop, agriculture wood shop, and greenhouse. Additionally, Midwest Central is home to the only FFA Owned Irrigated Plot in the State of Illinois. The 14 acre plot is coupled with program owned machinery including a John Deere 4010 Diesel Tractor, John Deere 7000 4 Row Planter, cultivator, Disk, and chisel plow.

Courses to be taught by the candidate will be determined by the candidate’s strengths. Courses offered include: Into to Agriculture, Agriculture Science, Animal Science, Agriculture Communications and Leadership, Basic Agriculture Mechanics, Agriculture Metal & Fabrication, Agriculture Machinery Service, and Agriculture Construction. Candidates with interest in agricultural mechanics are wanted, but not required.

As per negotiated contract found online at www.MidwestCentral.org. 30 day extended contract, stipend, and 3 Circles Grant FFA and SAE Grant is open to consideration.

The Ag Academy shares a school barn, which Ashley plans to still run a show team out of over the summer, and 15 acres of garden space that Andrew Klein is developing into a fully functioning CSA. Summer work will be supported by two undergraduate Ag Education Interns and student farm hands who are funded by the CSA. Current classes taught include Intro to Ag (CASE AFNR), Basic Ag Science, Dual Credit Horticulture through Richland Community College, and Agriculture Business. Eisenhower High School students are 1:1 and teachers are 2:1 with Macbooks and iPads. Eisenhower is an Apple School, but teachers are promoted to use whatever online learning platforms engage students and work for them. This program has the potential for incredible growth and can be directed towards the successful candidate’s strengths.

Courses taught may include Introduction to Marketing Standards, Agriculture Business and Farm Management, Plant Pest Identification, Agriculture Business Management, Soil Fertility and Fertilizers, Agriculture Sales, Grain Marketing, Agriculture Mechanization, and Agri-Business Work Exploration. The Agriculture and Horticulture Tenure Track Faculty works in conjunction with the Agriculture Program Director to develop, prepare, and deliver specific courses in both classroom and various lab settings. Essential Job Functions
-Select and compile tests, assignments, and/or discussion exercises that permit the measurement of course competencies and learning objectives as outlined in Course Information Forms (CIF).
-Conduct and accompany students on course related and industry sponsored field trips including those in and out of the 505 district
-Prepare and utilize a course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution and the A/EST Department
-Maintain current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilize a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources.
-Timely submission of all grades for any assignments and exams for course completion utilizing Cobra Learning system and Web Advisor, submit required reports on student progress according to published deadlines.
-Maintain communication with the Agriculture Program Director on course and/or student concerns.
-Provide recommendations to the Dean, Department Chair, and Agriculture Program Director regarding curriculum.
-Demonstrate a positive and professional relationship with students, colleagues, college administration and community.
-Attend required college and departmental meetings and participate in professional development activities.
-Possess a passion for teaching community college students.
-Actively participate in local high school events held on campus (FFA, recruiting).
-Serve as an advisor for Phi Alpha Chi (Parkland Ag-Club).
-Prepare and train agriculture students for agriculture contest teams and entries for PAS (Post secondary Agriculture Student organization) and NACTA Judging.
-Perform duties in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the college.
-Is available for student advising/mentoring.
-Maintain regular office hours to ensure availability for student consultation, provides assistance to students in a timely manner.
-Performs other duties as assigned by the department chair.

Minimum Qualifications:
-Masters Degree in Agriculture with 18 hours coursework in agriculture Business, Farm Management and/or Agronomy. The following will also be considered: Candidates with an undergraduate degree in Agriculture must have two years related industry experience in Agriculture Business, Farm management and/or Agronomy and will complete a Masters Degree in Agriculture with 18 hours coursework in Agriculture Business, Farm Management and/or Agronomy within three years of hire. Degrees must be conferred by May 31, 2019.
-Applicant must pass a criminal background check with finger printing.

The Ag Literacy Coordinator will work with local school districts to deliver specific programming in agricultural literacy exploration, experimentation and growth.

Supervision
The Ag Literacy Coordinator reports directly to the Jackson County Farm Bureau Manager. The County Farm Bureau Manager is responsible for supervision and performance reviews of the Ag
Literacy coordinator with input from the Jackson County Advisory Council.

Responsibilities
1. Develop and conduct in-school and group educational programs
a. Emphasis on K through 5th grade students.
2. Prepare and assemble lesson plans, activities, and packets
3. Organize and work with volunteers to make educational presentations.
4. Work with local FFA chapters, SIU students, and other organizations on volunteer
activities, programs, etc.
5. Conduct volunteer and county and/or district teacher workshops and institutes
6. Use a variety of methods to reach targeted audiences (field trips, demonstrations,
presentations, media, newsletters, exhibits, contests, etc)
7. Use materials as supplied and keep supply room organized
8. Complete duties as assigned by the Manager

Qualifications:
• Interest and basic knowledge of agriculture
• Ability to work "hands-on" with students, teachers and volunteers
• Good communications skills
